Areas of Focus: couples & family therapy, addictions & mental health, trauma, issues related to gender identity and sexual orientation, life transitions, navigating changes in faith and community.
Primary Therapeutic Modalities: Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), experiential therapies & the Satir Model, logotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
Michael has an MDiv. From the University of Toronto, Trinity College, and an MMFT from the University of Winnipeg. Much of his work experience has been in marginalized areas; AIDS, transgender issues, addictions, and spirituality, and how these issues impact families and loved ones. He has taught courses at both the University of Manitoba, Master of Education Counselling Psychology, and the University of Winnipeg MMFT programs. He has been a site supervisor for the Master of Education Counselling Psychology programs for the Universities of Manitoba and Lethbridge, Alberta. He has also developed and facilitated family programs for the Aurora Recovery Centre in Gimli, The Bruce Oake Recovery Centre in Winnipeg, and with the Canadian Mental Health Association across Manitoba and in Winnipeg. Michael is registered with the Canadian Association for Couples and Family Therapy.
Michael's approach to therapy includes supporting individuals and their loved ones explore their strengths and gain access to the ability of taking charge of their lives. He encourages growth through facilitating a space where people can look at how they make meaning of their experiences, as well as processing difficult events from the past with the use of EMDR.
