Hi, I am Hyoshin Jang.

“The good life is not any fixed state. It is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination” by Carl Rogers.

I hold a Bachelor of Social work (registered with Manitoba College of Social Workers) and a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (registered with Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy). I also have a master’s degree in education from my country of origin, South Korea.

I believe humans have inner strength. With awareness, insights and honing experiences, we can strive towards authenticity, integrity, and meaningfulness in our life journeys through actualizing self-agency with acceptance and making choices. I am honoured to walk alongside my clients when they need to share their stories and connect with compassion. As a woman, mother, spouse, immigrant and racialized person, I have life experiences that help me understand hope in suffering. I find meaning in therapeutic work in strengthening my sense of solidarity with people in my community.

I have experience working with individuals, couples and families challenged by anxiety, depression, trauma, loss and grief, addiction, parenting, childhood sexual abuse, disabilities and conflicts in relationships.

My focus is to empower my clients to help themselves using a client-centered, trauma informed, systemic perspective and social justice framework. In my work, I incorporate a blend of therapy models including Attachment theory, Bowen Family Systems theory, Narrative, Emotionally Focused therapy, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Polyvagal theory, Solution focused, Experiential therapy and mindfulness.

In my free time, I practice yoga, meditation, walking my dogs in nature, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends. I look forward to working with you.
